この9月18日から｢奥入瀬渓流ホテル｣に宿泊しました。
そろそろ林檎の季節になろうとしている矢先、
青森では36.1℃を記録するなど、日本各地と同様に
なかなか秋になろうとしません。

それでも、早生林檎が出回るようになり
ホテルの客室には「ウェルカム・フルーツ」として
林檎がたくさん置かれていました。

かごの側には小さなメッセージカードが添えられ、
「好きなだけお持ち帰りになってください」と。
青森の林檎は本当に美味しい！
青森の生んだ宝物です。

　
Apple Season

From September 18th, I was staying at "Oirase-keiryu Hotel".
With the apple picking season right around the corner,
Aomori recorded 36.1°C (97°F), and as with everywhere else in Japan, autumn is taking its time to arrive..

Even with the belated fall, the season’s earliest apples began appearing, and many of them were set in the hotel guest rooms as "welcome fruits"

The little message card by the basket read, "Please take home as many as you would like." Aomori’s apples are really delicious! They are the jems of Aomori.

仕事であちこち飛び回ることの多い私は、あちこちでペットや野生動物、
時には、アフリカなどでの猛獣にも遭遇することがあります。

私が愛してやまないのは、「猫科」の動物。
特に、私の中で私最高峰に君臨するのは「チータ」です。

ま、家で飼うこともできないからもっぱら映像や写真で見てますが、
ここでシリーズ初回は、私のカメラで撮った可愛い動物を幾つかご紹介。
皆様、喜んで下さるでしょうか？

この動物シリーズは、不定期ですがシリーズ化します、どうぞお楽しみに！！

　
Series "I Love Animals" ～No.1～

Because I travel around everywhere for work, here and there I come across pets, wild animals, and at times even beasts in places like Africa.

I am especially a huge fan of the animals of the "cat family".
Amongst them, my absolute all time reigning favorite are the "Cheetahs"

Well, I will never get to have them as pets, so the closest I ever get is watching them on screen or in photos, but in this series, I will introduce adorable animals that I shot with my camera.

I wonder if everyone will enjoy them?

Although it will not be periodical, this will be the animal series.
I hope you enjoy it！

正式名を「鳩森八幡神社」、りっぱな能舞台や東京都指定の冨士塚もある。
境内の木々は区の保存林です。

今年はうだるように暑い夏が、9月15日の今日になっても終わりません。でも暦通り、今週末には、私の住む千駄ヶ谷‘神宮外苑地区’で「秋祭り」「鳩森神社大祭」が開催されています。

超都心のこの一画では、とても小さなお祭りですが、毎年、小さな子供用の山車が出て、小さな小さな子供用の御輿と、大人用の御輿がわずか数台が担がれます。なんて品のいい担ぎ手達･･･。こんなに礼儀正しい御輿の往来なんて見たことがありません。担ぎ手は酔っ払うでもなく、騒ぐでもなく、モロ肌脱ぐわけでもなく、「ソイヤ、ソイヤ」と笛の音に合わせて神宮前や千駄ヶ谷2丁目、3丁目を練り歩いていました。

静かなお祭りだと思わざるを得ないのは、5月の浅草三社祭を知っているからですが、住人の少ないこの地区でも、子供たち、若い両親、街の顔聴きの長老達がハッピ姿に地下足袋で、年に一度の秋祭りを楽しんでいました。頑張れ！！

無くならないで欲しいよね～伝統だもの。

　
"Autumn Festival" of my Beloved Town

As of September 15th, the sweltering heat of the summer is yet to cease this summer. But as scheduled in the calendar, "Autumn Festival" "Hatonomori Shrine Grand Festival" will take place this weekend in the Jingu-Gaien area of Sendagaya where I live.

This is a tiny festival that takes place every year in a super-urban corner of the town with only a Dashi (a small hand pulled parade float) for the small children, a tiny tiny Mikoshi (a portable parade shrine carried on shoulder by a group of people) for older children, and several adult Mikoshi. How amazingly well mannered these Mikoshi carriers are… I have never seen such a well-behaved Mikoshi parade. The Mikoshi carriers never get drunk, rowdy or go shirtless, but simply parade to the rhythm of the whistle chanting “soiya! soiya!” through the neighborhoods of Jingumae, Sendagaya 2-chome(block) and 3-chome.

It’s inevitable to think that this festival is quiet in comparison to Asakusa’s Sanja Festival (one of the largest annual festivals in Japan) held in May, but in this area with few residents, children, young parents and the elders deeply rooted to the neighborhood put on their Happi (special acket-syle kimono for festivals) and Jika-tabi (traditional socks with soles) and enjoyed the annual autumn festival. Keep it up, guys! Let’s hope this festival will never fade-out… it’s a tradition.

飛行機や電車、車にも殆ど酔わない私ですが、船となると、大違い。
それほどひどい船酔いタイプではないはずなのに、
実は、今回の香港－マカオ間のフェリー1時間の船上で、
「うねり」による船酔いをしました。
気持ち悪くなって、「後10分も乗ったら駄目かも･･･」という
ギリギリの時点で到着しホットしたのです。
フィリピン沖に台風がいて海がうねっていた･･･とはいえです。

以前、モルディブに行ったときのこと。
風が強く、良い天気なのに激しい波がたっていたのです。
たった20分間、リゾート専用の豪華プライベートクルーザーで
リゾート島に渡るのに、余りの激しい波に10分も経たずに船酔い。
トイレに入って、便器を抱えたままリゾートに着きました。
船中ではハネムーナーの二人も酔ってしまったようで、
私がトイレから出ないので流しで吐いていたと、スタッフ。
なんてこった･･･船旅。

また、昨年の超大型客船の豪華クルーズでは
ロサンゼルスからメキシコのロスカボスまで行きました。
超豪華な大型船ですから、プール、スパ、美容室、数々のレストラン、
シアター、バーなどのある豪華な空間です。
ベッドルームのキャビンもシャワー付き、テラス付きの
ダブルベッド・ルームでした。
船上では往復で8日間を過ごすのですが、波のない静かな海なのに、
なんと太平洋の大きな‘うねり’にやられました。
フワ～ン、フワ～ンとうねり、まっすぐ歩くのも大変。
用ほどではないのですが、私はずっと気分が悪く、
夜もうねりで起きてしまうほどでした。
毎日、同行のカメラマンから「顔色、悪いですね」と。

これからは、リバークルーズ専門になろうと思います！

　
Please Advice!
Is There a Way to Avoid Seasickness?

I almost never get motion sickness from planes, trains or cars, but ships are a whole different story. Although, I usually don’t have severe seasickness, but the one-hour ferry ride from Hong Kong to Macau got me ill with the “rolling” of the waves. At the breaking point where I thought, “Ten more minutes of this and I’m not going to make it… ” I was relieved to be on land.

There was a Typhoon off from the coast of Philippine and the water was a bit choppy… but still.

Once, when I went to Maldives, although the weather was clear, the wind was strong and the waves were hard. In the mere twenty-minuet ride on the resort’s private cruiser taking the guests to the resort island, I was in the toilet after ten minutes, hugging the bowl and arrived in that style. The staff told me that, because I was occupying the bathroom, the honeymooners onboard, who also fell ill, had to use the sink! Oh boy… travel by sea.

Last year, I went on a cruise from Los Angeles to Los Cabos in Mexico on a luxury liner. This is a huge ship, gorgeously equipped with a pool, spa, hair salon, several restaurants, theater, a bar, and more. My cabin was a double bedroom with a shower and a porch.

The cruise consists of eighy days total on the ship, and despite its travel on a quiet calm Pacific Ocean, the “rolling” got to me.

The constant floating up and down rolling made even walking straight a challenge. I wasn’t at a point of motion sickness, but wasn’t quite feeling right, and couldn’t stay asleep from the constant rolling. Every morning, the cameraman traveling with me greeted with a “oh, you are looking pale.”

I’m sure, I will stick to river cruises from now on.

最近の高級リゾートでは、庭にプライベートプールが
設置されていることは珍しくなくなりました。
多分、日本旅館の各客室に「露天風呂付きの部屋」が
生まれているのと同様な贅沢かと思われます。

でも、リゾートの客室内すべてにプライベートプールが･･･
となると多くは知りません。
マカオに生まれた「バンヤンツリー マカオ」の客室には、
すべてにプライベートプールが設置され、
しかも、プランジプールのような小さいものではなく、
5m×1.5mほどのゆったりとしたもの。
当然、客室自体も最低で100m²以上という広さがあります。

凄いですね、インドのニューデリーでは、
シティホテル内の各部屋にプールが付きが生まれています。
ホテルはどこまで贅沢になるのでしょう。

　
How Luxurious will Hotels Become?

Recently, it isn’t rare to find a private pool in the yards of villas at a luxury resort. This is somewhat of a similar trend as the emergence of Japanese Ryokan with “In-suite open-air tub”

But a resort with an in-suite pool in every guestroom… is hardly ever hard of. Each of the guestrooms in Macau’s “Banyan Tree Macau” is equipped with an in-suite relaxation pool, and these are not tiny plunge pools, sizable ones about 5m×1.5m. Obviously, the suites themselves are at least over 100m².

This is amazing.
In New Delhi, India, city hotels are now installing in-suite pool in each guestroom. I wonder, how luxurious will hotels become?
