箱根の玄関口である湯本温泉にあり、目の前には湯坂山が聳え、
眼下には清流 須雲川が流れています。
箱根らしい山懐に、静かに佇む宿でした。

New Ryokan in Hakone

On December 2012, we saw another new ryokan was born in Hakone.
It’s KAI Hakone by Hoshino Resort. That is a ryokan that boasts hot springs.
The traditional Japanese inn is the latest of KAI brand.

It’s located in Yumoto Hot Spring that is the gateway of Hakone,
and Mt.Yusaka sits in front of the ryokan.
Also you can see the clear waters of the Sukumo River below.
The mountains that are what we call Hakone embrace the ryokan calmly.

世界中でいろいろなブランドのバス・アメニティに
出会いますが、今度のアメニティは
初めての出逢いでした。

場所は東京のホテル「コンラッド東京」です。
リクエストによって3種類の中から選べるのですが、
ここに挙げる2種のブランドとは初めての出逢い。
パッケージも香りもなんとも個性的！
画面の左が英国発「Tara Smith」、
右はご存じ「Shanghai Tang」、日本では珍しいです。
コレクションしたくなるようなアメニティでした。

Sweet Bath Amenity

That was my first encounter ever though I had come across
many branded bath amenities in the hotels around the world.

It was at Conrad Tokyo.
You can choose one from three different brands, but
I have never seen the two brands of these in the hotels I have visited.
The packages and aromas are really unique!
The left one is Tara Smith from UK and the right one is Shanghai Tang,
as you may have already known but rarely have seen in Japan.
They were the amenities I was tempted to take out from the hotel.

佐賀県の秘境、古湯温泉「ONCRI/おんくり」でのことです。

今までずっと試したいと思っていた「天然砂蒸し風呂」に
生まれて初めて入りました。
「砂」はただの砂はでなく、マイナスイオンや遠赤外線効果のある
トルマリンや、麦飯石などが使われているなんて、知らなかった！

さらに長い時間入るのかと思ったら、平均15～20分だそう。
けっこう熱い温泉が下を通り砂を温めていることで、
長く入りすぎるとフラフラになる可能性有り。
新陳代謝を良くし、血行促進、細胞の活性化も効果有り。
昔の人はよく考えたものですよね。

My First Experience Ever

It was when I visited ONCRI in Furuyu Hot Spring hidden from the central part of Saga Prefecture.　http://www.oncri.com/
For the first time I took a “Natural Sand Steam Bath” I had been really eager to try.

I never knew that the “sand” was not the common sand but　are contained tourmaline and heal stone that are said to have negative ion and a far infrared effect !
I heard that the average hour of use is 15-20 minutes though I thought we should use much longer.

The hot sand was heated by the very hot spring flowing under the sand that if you took too much you would feel dizzy.
The bath would increase metabolism and blood circulation and also lead activation of cell.
Ancient wisdom remains useful even today.

18th to 20th December 2012

7年ぶりのスリランカで出会った猫と犬。
最初はスリランカ南部の世界遺産ゴールフォートで出会った猫と犬。
印象的な白黒のノラ猫は性格が可愛かった！
ブルーの首輪の猫はお洒落なカフェで飼われているベイビー。

場所は変わって、海岸沿いの村タンガッレにあるアマンリゾーツ
「アマンウェラ」のGMが飼っている、とってもやんちゃなホテルドック。
黒のラブラドール、贅沢にもアマンが遊び場です。

Lovely Animals Around the World
Dogs and Cats I met in Sri Lanka that I visited for the first time in 7 years.

First off were they at Galle Fort, World Heritage site, in the south of Sri Lanka.
The impressive black-and-white cat had a cute personality!

A stylish cafe keeps a baby cat with a blue collar.

Moving to Amanresorts where stands in the seaside village, Tangalla.
General Manager of Amanwella keeps a very naughty hotel dog.
For the black Labrador, the playground is Amanwella, though it’s too luxury.

Certain day November 2012

スリランカ行きは3度目でしたが、最後に訪れてから
すでに7年以上が過ぎていました。

まず降り立ったコロンボは、経済発展が進み
賑わい活力のある空気が伝わってきます。
1泊後、アマンリゾーツの「アマンガラ」から
「アマンウェラ」を目指すためにコロンボを出発。
以前は国内線でゴールまで飛んでいましたが、
今回は、日本のゼネコンが作ったという高速道路が
丁度開通したばかりということで、
迎えを頼んだ「アマンガラ」の車でゴールフォートを目指しました。
看板も道の様子も、日本の高速道路にそっくりでした。

3時間弱で、世界遺産の町ゴールフォートに到着。
「アマンガラ」は変わらずに美しく、
コロニアル建築の白亜の姿のままに佇んでいました。
これほど美しいホテルは、世界広しといえどそうそうありません。

Sri Lanka for the First Time in 7 Years,
from Colombo to Galle

It was the third visit to Sri Lanka for me and more than seven years had already passed from the last stay.

I initially landed in Colombo that is growing rapidly and has vibrant atmosphere.

After overnight stay at Colombo, I was heading for Amanresorts’ Amangalla and Amanwella.
In the past I flew to Galle by air from Colombo.
But this time Amangalla’s limousine took me to Galle Fort by the high way that was reportedly built by a Japanese general contractor. The recently opened high way looks like ones in Japan as well as the traffic signs.

In less than 3 hours, the car got to Galle Fort, the town of the World Heritage site.

Amangalla had remained beautiful and stood as a chalky colonial-style architecture.
I have never seen such a magnificent hotel in the world.
