やっと1歳の猫、ピーちゃんはいつもなぜか腕を組んでいます。
泣かないし、気品たっぷりの血統書付き、美猫です。
これって「伯母バカ」でしょうか。

2013年4月某日

めったにない豪華な日々となった京都2泊3日の旅。
今回の京都の旅では1泊は「俵屋旅館」、
もう1泊は「ハイアットリージェンシー京都」に泊まり、
その日の夜は「下鴨茶寮」に出かけました。
伝統的ではありましたが、どこか新しいエッセンスが感じられた
素晴らしい食事に舌鼓。
今回は｢俵屋旅館｣に脱帽、｢下鴨茶寮｣に新鮮な驚き。
何度も泊まっているハイアットリージェンシーですが、
毎回、大いに安心して寛げるホテル。
京都の贅沢三昧は人生のエッセンスでした。

What a Superb Dinner at Shimogamo Saryo in Kyoto!

The 3 day-trip to Kyoto was such a lavish one that I had rarely experienced.
On the first day’s night, I stayed in Tawaraya Ryokan.
Hyatt Regency Kyoto was the next day’s accommodation.
And on the night I went out to Shimogamo Saryo.
I savored the taste of the dishes that was not only traditional but something novel.
My hat off to Tawaraya and my jaw dropped in Shimogamo Saryo.
I have stayed many times at Hyatt Regency. That provides pure relaxation every time I visit.
The sheer indulgence of luxury in Kyoto made me grasp the essence of life.

日本のシェフが創り出すフランス料理のクオリティは、
フランス人が考えるよりもずっと質の高いものだと
ずっと以前から思っていました。
それが今回、フランス料理のオリンピックである
「ボキューズ・ドール国際料理コンクール」で認められたのです。

星野リゾート「ブレストンコート」の浜田統之総料理長が
ボキューズ・ドール、フランス本選で世界第三位の銅賞を獲得。
世界24カ国の精鋭達との戦いを経て、
日本人初と成る表彰台に上がったとの知らせに湧きました！

2月28日、｢ブレストンコート｣で開かれた祝賀会では、
受賞時の料理と同じものが振る舞われ、大感激でした。
日本人の手先の技、磨かれた味覚と美しいプレゼンテーション、
そして、どこの国のシェフにも真似の出来ない
日本人ならではの独自の感性が光っていました。
もう日本発のフランス料理は、世界の誰をも感激させるほど
一歩も二歩も先行した実力派が存在していると言う証。
なんとも誇らしい！

My Heartiest Congratulations!

I have taken the quality of French cuisine created by Japanese chefs
as far better one than French people consider Japanese chefs.

Then the quality has been just recognized by the Bocuse d’Or,
that is the most famous global competition of French cuisine.

Noriyuki Hamada, the executive chef at Hoshino Resort’s Hotel Bleston Court,
has received third place in the competition final among the chefs from 24 countries worldwide. This was the first time that a Japanese chef had reached the podium.
I was thrilled to hear that.

On 28th February, They held the celebration at Hotel Bleston Court and
I was very delighted that they served the same plates they did in the competition.

The plates showed the Japanese manual skills,
polished sense of taste and beautiful presentation.
And utilizing his Japanese background, he showed his unique sense
that other chefs around the world couldn’t copy.

It is apparent that Japanese chefs excel so greatly in the arena of French cuisine
that people in the world would be impressed.

I’m proud of that.

オープン以来、ずっと行きたかったアノ場所･･･
「スカイツリーと東京ソラマチ」へ行きました！
やっぱりスゴイなぁ、近くで見ると大きすぎて
距離感がわからなくなります。

笑われそうですが、スカイツリーは混雑で上れませんでした。
いや、2時間待ちに「めげた」と言ったほうが当たり。
でも最高の快晴の冬日にツリーも輝いていましたよ。

New Place

That is the place where I really wanted to go since the opening.
I made it to TOKYO SKYTREE and Tokyo Solamachi!
It was so great and tall that I was a little confused
when watching the tower from the ground nearby.

You would laugh at me but I couldn’t move up as many people flocked to the tower.
Actually I was discouraged by the notice of a two-hour wait.
Putting these things aside, the tower was shining in the clear winter day.

Certain day February 2013

7年ぶりのスリランカで出会った猫と犬。
最初はスリランカ南部の世界遺産ゴールフォートで出会った猫と犬。
印象的な白黒のノラ猫は性格が可愛かった！
ブルーの首輪の猫はお洒落なカフェで飼われているベイビー。

場所は変わって、海岸沿いの村タンガッレにあるアマンリゾーツ
「アマンウェラ」のGMが飼っている、とってもやんちゃなホテルドック。
黒のラブラドール、贅沢にもアマンが遊び場です。

Lovely Animals Around the World
Dogs and Cats I met in Sri Lanka that I visited for the first time in 7 years.

First off were they at Galle Fort, World Heritage site, in the south of Sri Lanka.
The impressive black-and-white cat had a cute personality!

A stylish cafe keeps a baby cat with a blue collar.

Moving to Amanresorts where stands in the seaside village, Tangalla.
General Manager of Amanwella keeps a very naughty hotel dog.
For the black Labrador, the playground is Amanwella, though it’s too luxury.

Certain day November 2012

今回お見せするのは、ヨーロッパのバルト三国のひとつ、
ラトビアで出会った眼の青い猫ちゃん、
イタリアのシエナの郊外のホテル駐車場で、
ノンビリ昼寝をしていた利発そうな猫ちゃん、
そして、何年か目にマレーシア､ボルネオの森に造られた
「オラウータンを自然に帰す訓練センター」で
出会った4歳の男の子、現在はもう森に復帰しているはずです。

Lovely Animals Around the World

What I’d like to show you are cats and an orangutan.
First (Left one) is the cat in Latvia, one of the Baltic states. She(or he?) has blue eyes.

Next (center one) is the cat in the parking lot of the hotel that sits in the rural area of Siena, Italy. She (or he), who looked smart, was taking a relaxing nap.

The last (right one) is 4-year-old boy of orangutan. I came across him in the training center to get orangutans back to the nature. That facility was built in the forest of Borneo, Malaysia. He must have already returned to the forest.

2年前に突然やってきた
｢ハイアットリージェンシー箱根｣のホテル犬の男の子｢ハル｣。
ベイビー時代はやんちゃでしたが、今は2歳。
立派なホテル犬となって、ゲストのお出迎えや見送りをしています。

驚きは、マガジンハウス刊の雑誌「Tarzan」に連載までしてる！！

あんなに元気で駆け回っていたそのホテル犬ハルが、
しばらく前に交通事故に遭い、右足が不自由になりました。
切れてしまった神経は治らないと宣言されてしまったそうです。
今もまだ長い時間をかけてリハビリに頑張っているのですが、
ギブスはしばらく取れないかも知れない。
頑張れ！！ハル･･･。

　
Series “I Love Animals” 〜No.2〜
Japan’s First Hotel Employee Dog Even Carrying ID Card

Suddenly he came there 2 years ago.
His name is “Haru”, the employee dog of Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa.

He is 2 years old now, though he was a naughty child.
He has become honorable “Dog in Residence” of the hotel welcoming guests and seeing them off.

I was surprised to see that he was even contributing regular articles on MAGAZINE HOUSE’s Tarzan magazine.

Unfortunately, he got into a car accident a while ago. That restricts movement in his right leg. I remember him running around so cheerfully.

He was told that his damaged nerves wouldn’t be cured.
He is undergoing long sessions of rehabilitation very hard, but his plaster cast might not be removed for a while.

Hang in there!! Haru.

大人になってから、何十年もの間に何足の靴を買って履いていただろう。
有名ブランドも、スポーツ系も、高いのも安いのもいろいろ履いたけれど、
やっと、やっと｢幸せな靴｣に出会ったのでした！！
‘安全靴’みたい･･･という声も聞こえるけれど、安全靴でもいい。
ストレスフリーの靴ってなかなか見つかり難いでしょ？
去年初めて出会って黒を買い、今は修理で入院中。
改めて同じデザインの赤を購入したのです！
最初から痛みも無し、あたる部分も無し、マメもできず、
外反母趾なんてなりっこない(もう遅いけれど)。
スペイン製の有り難い靴です。

中央：このままの姿でずっと、ずっと動かない。考え事？ それとも・・・？？ アユタヤの野良猫仲間。
右：アユタヤの寺で暮らしている猫。みんな哲学的な顔だった！

仕事であちこち飛び回ることの多い私は、あちこちでペットや野生動物、
時には、アフリカなどでの猛獣にも遭遇することがあります。

私が愛してやまないのは、「猫科」の動物。
特に、私の中で私最高峰に君臨するのは「チータ」です。

ま、家で飼うこともできないからもっぱら映像や写真で見てますが、
ここでシリーズ初回は、私のカメラで撮った可愛い動物を幾つかご紹介。
皆様、喜んで下さるでしょうか？

この動物シリーズは、不定期ですがシリーズ化します、どうぞお楽しみに！！

　
Series "I Love Animals" ～No.1～

Because I travel around everywhere for work, here and there I come across pets, wild animals, and at times even beasts in places like Africa.

I am especially a huge fan of the animals of the "cat family".
Amongst them, my absolute all time reigning favorite are the "Cheetahs"

Well, I will never get to have them as pets, so the closest I ever get is watching them on screen or in photos, but in this series, I will introduce adorable animals that I shot with my camera.

I wonder if everyone will enjoy them?

Although it will not be periodical, this will be the animal series.
I hope you enjoy it！

飛行機や電車、車にも殆ど酔わない私ですが、船となると、大違い。
それほどひどい船酔いタイプではないはずなのに、
実は、今回の香港－マカオ間のフェリー1時間の船上で、
「うねり」による船酔いをしました。
気持ち悪くなって、「後10分も乗ったら駄目かも･･･」という
ギリギリの時点で到着しホットしたのです。
フィリピン沖に台風がいて海がうねっていた･･･とはいえです。

以前、モルディブに行ったときのこと。
風が強く、良い天気なのに激しい波がたっていたのです。
たった20分間、リゾート専用の豪華プライベートクルーザーで
リゾート島に渡るのに、余りの激しい波に10分も経たずに船酔い。
トイレに入って、便器を抱えたままリゾートに着きました。
船中ではハネムーナーの二人も酔ってしまったようで、
私がトイレから出ないので流しで吐いていたと、スタッフ。
なんてこった･･･船旅。

また、昨年の超大型客船の豪華クルーズでは
ロサンゼルスからメキシコのロスカボスまで行きました。
超豪華な大型船ですから、プール、スパ、美容室、数々のレストラン、
シアター、バーなどのある豪華な空間です。
ベッドルームのキャビンもシャワー付き、テラス付きの
ダブルベッド・ルームでした。
船上では往復で8日間を過ごすのですが、波のない静かな海なのに、
なんと太平洋の大きな‘うねり’にやられました。
フワ～ン、フワ～ンとうねり、まっすぐ歩くのも大変。
用ほどではないのですが、私はずっと気分が悪く、
夜もうねりで起きてしまうほどでした。
毎日、同行のカメラマンから「顔色、悪いですね」と。

これからは、リバークルーズ専門になろうと思います！

　
Please Advice!
Is There a Way to Avoid Seasickness?

I almost never get motion sickness from planes, trains or cars, but ships are a whole different story. Although, I usually don’t have severe seasickness, but the one-hour ferry ride from Hong Kong to Macau got me ill with the “rolling” of the waves. At the breaking point where I thought, “Ten more minutes of this and I’m not going to make it… ” I was relieved to be on land.

There was a Typhoon off from the coast of Philippine and the water was a bit choppy… but still.

Once, when I went to Maldives, although the weather was clear, the wind was strong and the waves were hard. In the mere twenty-minuet ride on the resort’s private cruiser taking the guests to the resort island, I was in the toilet after ten minutes, hugging the bowl and arrived in that style. The staff told me that, because I was occupying the bathroom, the honeymooners onboard, who also fell ill, had to use the sink! Oh boy… travel by sea.

Last year, I went on a cruise from Los Angeles to Los Cabos in Mexico on a luxury liner. This is a huge ship, gorgeously equipped with a pool, spa, hair salon, several restaurants, theater, a bar, and more. My cabin was a double bedroom with a shower and a porch.

The cruise consists of eighy days total on the ship, and despite its travel on a quiet calm Pacific Ocean, the “rolling” got to me.

The constant floating up and down rolling made even walking straight a challenge. I wasn’t at a point of motion sickness, but wasn’t quite feeling right, and couldn’t stay asleep from the constant rolling. Every morning, the cameraman traveling with me greeted with a “oh, you are looking pale.”

I’m sure, I will stick to river cruises from now on.

飛行機に乗ると、個人的に最も気になるのが
CA達のモチベーションです。
次は座席の通路側か窓側の選択、そして食事･･･。

でも実は、最近とても気に入っている機内サービスが
ガルーダ・インドネシア航空で提供されている
「機内入国審査プログラム」なのです。
「到着ビザ・機内取得プログラム」とも言うこのサービスは
2004年以来、観光目的にも必要となった到着ヴィザを、
機内に乗り込んでいる税関の係官によって
その場で発給されるシステムであり、
事前に面倒な手続きをしに大使館へ行ったり、
旅行会社に取得の代行を頼んだりする必要がありません。

成田発GA881とGA885、大阪発GA883に乗れば、
そのサービスが受けられます。
空港到着後にも長い列に並ばずに済みますし、
専用ゲートを通り、いち早くバゲージ受け取り場に行ける、
画期的なサービスです。

ガルーダ・インドネシア航空は、今年で就航50周年。
今年は羽田線も就航を開始し、
バリ島へもジャカルタへも
より選択肢が増えて行きやすくなりました。
　

The Ever Evolving In-flight Service
"Garuda-Indonesia Air Lines"

Personally, the thing that I am most concerned about when I board an airplane is how motivated the cabin crews are. Then there is the selection of either the aisle or the window sear, and the meals…

But truthfully, my most recent favorite in-flight service is the Garuda-Indonesia’s"In-flight Immigration Clearance Program". This service, also known as the "Immigration on Board"allow passengers to apply and acquire arrival visas, required for tourist since 2004, from an immigration officer on board, which eliminates the hassle of going to the embassy or having a travel agency to arrange it prior to the trip.

This service is available on flights from Narita GA881 and GA885, and GA883 from Osaka. You can skip the long line in immigration and go straight from the gate to the baggage claim..

Garuda Indonesia celebrated its 50thyear anniversary this year.
Bali and Jakarta flights now departing from not only Narita but also from Haneda, are making visits much easier.

回転寿司って､昔は安いだけのことはあったけれど、
今の回転寿司はホントに凄いと思います。
最近、友人の友人がまたまた新店舗を開店したというので、
そのお祝いを兼ねて“ただ食い”にありつきました。
驚くこと無かれ、その新鮮さやネタの良さ、酢飯の
美味しさには脱帽･･･でした！

名前は「回転寿司 すし之助」
という町田店でしたが、進化してますね､回転寿司。
こだわりは“こぼれ寿司”と謳うこぼれるほどのネタです。
さすがに一皿100円などと安い料金が売りではありませんが、
ネタの上質さも､清潔さも一流でしたよ！

日本の食文化って､やっぱり、世界一だと思うなぁ。
今なら絶対世界に受け入れられる､世界進出も夢じゃない！
近かったら毎日食べに行くのに･･･。

　
It is amazing, evolution of the Revolving Sushi !

Revolving Sushi (self-serve sushi served on a revolving conveyer belt) has come a long way since the time when the only advantage was the price.

A friend of my friend recently opened a revolving sushi restaurant and I was invited there to celebrate its opening. With fresh sushi toppings and the perfectly seasoned sushi rice, this restaurant was absolutely beyond expectations !

This new species of sushi evolution was the Machida branch of Revolving Sushi Sushi-no-suke Their signature dish, ‘sushi overflow’ has toppings literally overflowing from the rice. The quality of the sushi and the top class cleanliness sets this place aside, not from the popular price like 100 yen but with reasonable price per dish variety of establishments.

I think the Japanese culinary culture is one of the best in the world.

こんにちは！

ブログなんて一生私には縁がないものと思っていましたが、
多くの人に背中を押され、ハイセンスなクリエイターたちに出会い、
そして彼らの助けを借りて何とかスタートできることになりました。

ハワイのラナイ島から戻って間もなく、
今、4月1日をタイのサムイ島で迎えています。

海外取材や国内取材で、行ったり来たりの旅人生ですが、
そんな日常の中から、いただいている連載記事やコラムに
書かせていただく記事とは違う、プライベートな部分で感じたこと、
こぼれた話、ホテルの感動秘話、時には怒りの話など、
独り言のように綴っていければ…と考えています。

それを読んでくださり、さらに面白がってくださるならば、
私は充分に満足、幸せなことです！

Hello!

I never thought blogging was something for me, but I was able to embark with gentle nudges from friends, and with help from creative talents I’ve met.

I’ve just returned from the island of Lanai in Hawaii, and now beginning my April in Samui, Thailand.

My life is an unending journey of reporting across Japan and around the world, and I would like to share with you a side of my daily life that do not make it to my columns and articles. I’m hoping that this blog will be a glimpse of my private thoughts, out-take stories, unforgettable hotel stories, and even a bit on matters that anger me.

I would be delighted and more than satisfied if you are entertained by reading my stories.
