田植えが終わったばかり「星峠の棚田」。

「里山十帖」の存在の意味がよく分かりました。

Hideaway in Mountain…

I visited SATOYAMA JUJO, small hotel [Japanese–Inn].
on the beginning of June
which I was dreaming since that opening one year ago.
As I imagined the owner of this Inn who has a clear concept
and his staffs who help him are still making a strong base
and a foundation for a existence of SATOYAM JUJO also of this area..

Just one year passed from the opening,
the significance of agriculture and rural regeneration emitted
by the owners has been transmitted to me.
He is living here MINAMI UONUMA City since more than 12 years.
This town is the best of best bland place in Japan
for Japanese rice-agriculture.
Rice is always a heart of Japanese and the base for Japanese Life.

これぞモルディブ･･･
「ギリ・ランカンフシ」は10年ぶりの滞在でした。
「ソネバ・ギリ」からリ・ブランドされて、

お正月が終わって早々、
「マンダリン オリエンタル 台北」に行って参りました！
オープンは2014年5月18日でした。

建物は由緒ある保存建築物かと思いきや
なんと新たに建てられたニュービルディング、
内観はエレガントでモダンな今どきのホテルでした！

ホテルは食事もスパもサービスも言うこと無し。
さすが食の国だけあって、街のレストランでの美味しさも破格、
みんなよく食べるし元気いっぱいです。
こうでなくちゃ、国の経済は発展しないのよね～。

How Pleasant Night of Taipei is!

The street of Taipei has still been in Japan boom even hotter than Taiwan boom in Japan.
As soon as the new-year holidays ended,
I visited a new comer in the city’s luxury hotel scene, Mandarin Oriental, Taipei!
That opened on 18th May 2014.

The hotel looks like a historical preserved building,
but actually it is newly-built and the interior is elegant and modern!

Their food, spa and service are nothing to complain about.
The country boasts their food so much that the restaurants in Taipei serve remarkable dishes
and people there eat well and are very vigorous.

Without these elements, a national economy won’t grow…

The French restaurant Crown at Palace Hotel Tokyo has been very popular and has a high reputation since the era of the original Palace Hotel.

First launched in 1964, the well-established La Pyramide in France supervised Crown’s own menu and you can enjoy the time-honored restaurant.

カーテンを開けると、空は未だ真っ暗。
そのうち群青色からブルーへ、そして間もなくピンクから
オレンジへと朝焼けが始まりました。
太陽が昇り始める6時前に、海辺に出て散歩をしたら、
若い釣り人が一人、私を見て「おはよう、今朝は気持ちいいね！」って。
9月23日、快晴の空なんて本当に久しぶりでした。

柔らかな風の吹く､雲一つ無い快晴の朝でした。

Do You Know Yokohama Has Such a Beautiful Resort On The Beach？

I woke up around 4am in the morning when I stayed at the hotel.
Opening the curtain and I found it was still dark in the sky.
Then it turned from ultramarine to blue and shortly from pink to orange
as the sky started to glow.
Before 6am at the dawn, I went out to the beach to take a walk
and a young fisherman called to me saying “Good morning. It’s such a nice time of the day !”
It’s been a while since I saw clear sky. It was 23rd September.

At Yokohama Bay Side Marina with deluxe cruisers lining up,
it was a beautiful sunny day without a cloud in the sky while it was breezing.
The hotel is Bay Side Marina Hotel Yokohama.
It’s a very unique and lovely resort hotel.

地ビール「HAKATA」はホテル内で製造されているオリジナルビール。
ロビーに飾られていた「山笠」は､到着翌日の9月12日、福岡空港ロビーへお引っ越し。
ベッドボード上の博多織飾り

「ホテルオークラ福岡」に滞在しました。
旅の理由は「滞在するため」でしたが、
総支配人の高柳様と、社長室営業企画課課長の木村様が
しっかりと「ホテルオークラ福岡」の魅力を伝えてくださいました。

到着時、ロビーで思わず口に出した「スタンダード！」発言、
特長は何かと問いただした私に、
「博多の人の温かさ、温かなおもてなし」と。
泊まってみてわかりました！！！！

In Hakata where I already visited uncountable times,
This is the very first stay in this Hotel.

I stayed for one night in [Hotel Okura Fukuoka],
The reason is just for staying.
Mr. Takayanagi,of hotel GM and Ms. Kimura of Manager of promotion,
They talked about the important charm of hotel.

When I arrived at the robby of this hotel,
I said that How standard impression !
I tried to ask them what is the characteristic thing in the hotel.
So they answered that
[warm hospitality and warm caractor of hataka’s people].
I really understand and felt it finaly after one night stay !!!

Which is a part of TORANOM Hills New Complex..

This hotel Brand is the first one in Japan, 12th in the world.
And it’s concept is ‘Life style Hotel’,
Which has a charm of Tokyo and individuality and originality.

The most impressive part is the SPA,
They provide a talor-made treatment to each person.
And a therapist to me was so cool and nice!
Her technique is also in high level, I spent a good time.
On 37th floor, the space is very huge of 1350m²,
It is quite Impressive Spa.

世界的に人気の高いクルーズですが、この度、11万トンの
大型客船「ダイアやモンドプリンセス」に乗船する機会を得て、
「北海道1州とサハリン10日間」の旅に出ました。

大型デパートが2つ繋がったような巨大な客船は、
豪華な造りと､大勢のゲストを乗せて横浜港を出港。
北の町、サハリンを目指しました。

横浜で停泊中、なんとミニコンサートでは津軽三味線の
演奏があり、『津軽じょんがら節』や『上を向いて歩こう』など
日本の曲を披露してくれました。
津軽三味線のそこはかとないない哀愁と力強さに
私は聞く度に熱いものが心に込み上げてきます。

船旅は、いつ、どこの国を周遊しても特別な感動がありますね～！

Heading to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk of The Sakhalin Region,
The Unbeaten Northern Town

Cruise is popular worldwide and I had a chance to board
the 110,000-tonnage cruise ship Diamond Princess
and went on a 10 days cruise around the Hokkaido and the Sakhalin.

The ship was so gigantic that it’s like combining two huge department stores.
it set sail for the northern town, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk　
with many guests from Yokohama port.

While it was in harbor at Yokohama, they threw a surprise
Tsugaru Jamisen performance playing “Tsugaru Jyongara bushi”
and “I Look Up As I Walk”(the alternative title “Sukiyaki”）
Every time I hear Tsugaru Jamisen
I feel a lump in my throat as it has dynamism and subtle melancholy.

Whenever and wherever I cruise, it gives me special moments!

オープン直後に泊まりに行ってから早くも3年目。
久しぶりに「セント レジス 大阪」へ向かいました。
植栽したばかりの庭の緑は、すっかり青々と成長し日本庭園らしく…。
ホテルの成長を肌で感じるのは大きな歓びです。

嬉しかったのは朝食のブッフェです。
クオリティの高いアイテムが並び、朝からたっぷりといただきました。
特に手作りのオリジナルのグラノーラと
ギリシャ風ヨーグルトの組み合わせはホントに美味しかった！！

The Hotel For The First Time In 3 years

I stayed at the elegant hotel for the first time in 3 years.
It offered the better-than-expected breakfast just as I had thought!

The business has already continued for 3 years since I visited there right after the opening.
I headed for The St. Regis Osaka after so long.
Just planted greeneries in the garden at the opening have just grown
as such a Japanese garden.
It’s a great pleasure to feel the growth of the hotel’s business.

The joyful occasion was a buffet breakfast.
The items of high quality were lining up and I had plenty of food.
Especially, hand-made original muesli with Greek yogurt was SO nice!!

And [10 journalists from 10 countries] are selected to jpin
to this travel together for 6 days to visiting some of
Historic Hotel group in Switzerland….

This photo is just ladies without gentlemen, on the liver in Interlaken
for going to Brienz Lake and Grandhotel Giessbach.
We finaly visit and stay one night in Grandhotel Giessbach.

This Group members in this time was just wonderful and fruitful!!

長崎から小さな船に乗って、五島列島／上五島までの旅。
揺れることで知られた船旅は、
かつて経験したことのないほどの揺れに遭遇。
木の葉のように、ジェットコースターのように…
怖くて激しい揺れの1時間45分。

シートベルトをしたまま、トイレに歩くことも出来ず、
船ごと波に包まれ、洗われ、船の窓は波で外が見えないままでした。

それでも、ホテル「Margherita」(マルゲリータ)に着いたときには、
心がキュンとするほど、幸せな空気に包まれた
絶景のホテルに大満足。
そして、スタッフにはこう言いました。
「あんなに揺れる船では、二度と来れないかも知れない」

でも帰りの船は、同じ海とは思えないほど静かな凪状態でした。
全く揺れることなく、ス～ッと長崎港まで。
そして思ったのです。
「また行きたい！」と。

Taking a small ship from Nagasaki, it’s a trip to the Goto Islands/Kami-Goto.
The ship ride is known for shaky and I ran into the rolling
I had never experienced. It was like a leaf on the water or riding a roller coaster…
It lasted 1 hour and 45 minutes with the horrible rolling.
 
I had kept my seatbelt fastened and couldn’t go to the restroom.
The ship was swallowed up by the waves many times
and the windows were masked by the waves.
 
Even so, I was satisfied very much by the hotel “Margherita” with a great view
since it had so happy atmosphere that I felt something when I arrived there.
 
And I said to the staff, “I would never be able to come back
if I would take such a shaky ship”.
 
But the return ride was so calm that I couldn’t regard it as the same sea.

4泊6日の旅、6回目の訪問でした。
贅沢だけれど、1年に一回、こんなリゾートで
デトックスや体のリセットが出来たら幸せです。

食事も美味しく、カロリーも押さえられているので
毎日からだがとっても楽。
俗世間に戻ってからも、こんな食生活と
運動を続けていれば体には優しいはずなのです･･･。
それが出来たら苦労はしないのですが。

It’s been 5 Years Since The Last Visit to “Chiva-Som”

It was 6th time for me to visit Chiva-Som International Health Resort.
That was 6-day and 4-night trip.

Though it’s lavish, it would be happy if you could take a detox program
and relax at these kind of resort once in a year

Since they serve delicious dishes with low-calorie, I feel much better everyday.

It would be good for my health if I kept such diet
and exercise after coming back to the ordinary life.

I would have no trouble keeping healthy if I could.

30cmもの雪が降った先週末の東京を脱出して、
暖かい国、台湾へと飛びました。
羽田空港からチャイナエアラインで行く台湾は
わずか3時間20分の飛行、帰国便は2時間30分の飛行です。
近い！！！
空港は2つ、松山空港（街からタクシーで10分）、
台湾最大の国際空港である桃園空港（街からタクシーで50分）があり、
出来れば近い方が便利です。

ホテルを訪ねるプライベートな旅でした。
「Hotel QUOTE」「Hotel éclatTaipei」「Hotel W Taipei」
それぞれに個性的でしたが、なんといっても、「W」は凄い！！
いろんな意味でさすがです。

Off To Taiwan For The First Time In 10 Years
Escaping From Snow-stricken Tokyo,
Amazed By Pro-Japan People More Than Expected

I was off to a mild country, Taiwan escaping from cold Tokyo,
that got as much as 30cm of snow in the last weekend.
China Airlines from Haneda International Airport to Taiwan
take just 3 hours and 20 minutes and 2 hours and 30 minutes from Taiwan to Haneda.
It’s very close!!!

It has 2 airports, Taipei Songshan Airport (it takes 10 minutes by taxi)
and the Taiwan’s largest, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (it takes 50 minutes by taxi).
Songshan is convenient if possible.

It was a private trip to visit hotels, such as Hotel QUOTE,
Hotel éclatTaipei and Hotel W Taipei.
Each hotel was distinctive, especially W Taipei was outstanding among them !!
It impressed me in a lot of ways.

The Oldest Five-star Hotel in Europe, at Basel

Though I lived in Switzerland, I visited Basel only once.
This time I travelled to stay “Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois”,
that is one of the hotels
I really want to know.

The hotel sits along the Rhine and its history can be traced back to 1681.
The guests include Napoleon Bonaparte, Queen Elizabeth II, Picasso,
and Thomas Mann.

The main restaurant features Mediterranean food
and gets two Michelin starsand 18 points from Gault Millau.
Also above everything I wondered if the stately atmosphere derived from
its history and tradition.

オスロから車で約2時間半、
まずは海沿いのHvasser（ヴァッセル）というリゾート地へ向かいました。
友人の美しい別荘があり、みんなで数日過ごすためです。
ホテルはそこからは車で15分、
Tijomeにあるリゾート「Engo Gard」★★★★★へと向かいました。

2年前にホテルグループ「Relais et Chateaux」から脱退、
現在は､ローカルの高級リゾートとして人気。
訪れた6月のこの日、週末なので結婚式の盛大なパーティーが…。

The Resort in Norway, Where There Is No Japanese

Driving by car about two and a half hour from Oslo, we headed for Hvasser,
that is a seaside resort town. There is my friend’s beautiful second house
and we planned to stay there for several days.

Then I visited the resort hotel “Engo Gard”(★★★★★）,Tijome.
It’s 15 minutes ride by car to the hotel from the second house.

The hotel withdrew the hotel group “Relais et Chateaux” two years ago.
Currently it’s popular as a local high-grade resort.
On the day I visited in June, a big　wedding party was held since it was weekend…

日本のリゾートから、国際的なリゾートへの旅立ち･･･

今回も5月11日～16日まで滞在、行く度にホテルが誕生し､
行く度に何かしら国際的なイベントが開かれている現実は、
さすがに‘国際都市’としか言いようがありません。

今回は、5泊5軒のホテルに泊まりました。
そのうち3軒はオープンしたばかりのNEWホテル！
個性的で機能的、中には？？なものもありますが、
チープなホテルでもクオリティは随分良くなっている・・・。

そんな香港では､ホテルがとても個性的なことに驚きます。
たとえ国際的なチェーンホテルでも､他とは違う個性を発揮していて、
訪れる楽しみは大きく、毎回ワクワクするのです。

New Stylish Hotels Are Popping Up–Honk Kong’s Great!

I visit Hong Kong several times in a year.
On this occasion I visited there from 11th to 16th May.
Each time I drop across, I see new hotels are popping up and some international
Events are taking place there.
Hong Kong is what we call “cosmopolitan city”.

On this 6-day trip, I stayed different 5 hotels on each night.
The three hotels among them were newly launched!

They were unique and functional though some hotels were odd and even　budget hotels have improved the quality much better.
Such Hong Kong has very unique hotels and that’s amazing to me.

Even if they are international chains, in Hong Kong they show their uniqueness different from other locations. That’s why every time I’m excited to visit Hong Kong looking for surprises.

山好きの私でも、葉山、逗子、鎌倉辺りの海は
とても好きで､よくドライブがてら遊びに行きます。

My Dream Holiday House–a Seaside House–

Even though I love mountains, I often go out for a short trip to the seaside of Hayama, Zushi and Kamakura by driving a car, as I like the places so much.
But this time I stayed a “Seaside House” as if I had lived in my holiday house.

It was really fantastic that I felt I’d love to live in the places like that.

The white holiday house with its large windows sits on the seaside of Sajima.

美しい遺産の街、ベトナム中部の港町ホイアンを訪ねました。
旧市街はさすがに美しく、15～16世紀に栄えたという
歴史や伝統を詰めた家並みが残っています。

旅人としては、何しろ買い物も楽しくお洒落なカフェも点在。
1日だけの散策でしたが、足りなかった！
1泊でも街中に宿を取り、ゆっくりと、街の歴史を楽しむのがお薦めです。

Hoi An, World Heritage Town

I visited the port town of Hoi An, famous for World Heritage site, in central Vietnam.
The old town of Hoi An was really fascinating and it remained a string of houses
that were filled with a tradition and history of prosperity
from the 16th century until the 17th century.

For a tourist, shopping was very fun and stylish cafes were dotted around the town.
I spent just a day in the town but it was insufficient.
I recommend you to stay at least 2 days in the central
and take plenty of time to enjoy the history of the town.

ハノイから国内線でダナンへ。
ダナンからは1時間40分ほどの走行で、
まだこれから開発が進むだろう勢いのあるリゾート地
ランコー（Lang Co）に到着します。

海が美しく、浜辺も真っ白。
ベトナムには未だこんな隠れ家リゾート地があったんですね。
ここに開発されているのは、大型リゾート・コンプレックス。
今現在､オープンしているのはホテルが2軒、
「バンヤンツリー・ランコー」と「アンサナ・ランコー」です。
でも将来的には、あと4軒の高級ホテルがやってくる。
ゴルフ場も整った凄いリゾートが出来ました。

New Resort Complex Under Development in Vietnam

I flew from Hanoi to Da Nang by a domestic line.
From Da Nang, it took about 1hour ride to Lang Co,
which is a rising resort that has the potential to grow.

The ocean is beautiful and Lang Co has a white beach.
Vietnam still has this kind of a secluded resort.
Large resort complex is being developed here.
Banyan Tree Lang Co and Angsana Lang Co are currently in business.
Furthermore, four more luxury hotels are expected to coming.
Lang Co has emerged as a great resort that has golf courses as well.

「今年の軽井沢は雪が多いです」と、万平ホテルの
スタッフが教えてくれました。
雪の残るひっそりとした林の中に、2月22日に休業から目覚めた
クラシックホテル｢軽井沢 万平ホテル｣が、
2013年のシーズンに向けてドアを開けました。
待ち望んでいただろうゲストがたくさん泊まっていたものの、
ホテル内はひっそりと静かで、
賑わう前のひとときの静寂をたっぷりと満喫できました。

ウェルカムフルーツの変わりに置かれていたのが
フレッシュな最高級品の「アメーラトマト」。
トマト好きの私にはメチャクチャ美味しいトマトに大感激でした！！！

Snow Lingering Karuizawa Mampei Hotel In the Early Spring,

“It snows a lot this year in Karuizawa”
A staff of Mampei Hotel tipped me.

On 22nd February, Mampei Hotel opened the door again from the dormant period in winter
for upcoming 2013 season. The classic hotel sits in the quiet woods
and some snow lingers around the hotel.

Though many visitors waiting for the opening are coming to the hotel,
the tranquility ruled the interior of the hotel.
I enjoyed the one-time quietness before the busy period.

Instead of the welcome fruit, what the hotel offered was a fresh Amela Tomato.
Since I’m a tomato-crazy, I was really impressed by the highest-quality tomato!

何時か泊まりたいと、すでに20年近く憧れていた京都「俵屋旅館」。
一歩宿に入ったときから、帰路の旅立ちまで、
おもてなしは記憶に残るものでした。
世辞を並べず、特に諂わず、温かく、実に自然で心地いい対応は、
300年間という老舗旅館の歴史に磨かれた“技”なのでしょうか。

Kyoto Tawaraya Ryokan

For almost 20 years, I have been looking for an opportunity to stay there.
It’s Tawaraya Ryokan, which sits in central Kyoto.
The hospitality was memorable from crossing the gate to the departure.
They never use flattery but gave me a warm and really natural reception.
I wonder the comfortable hospitality would be “art”
refined by the 300-year classic Japanese in history.

2012年12月、箱根にまたまた新しい旅館が誕生しました。
「界 箱根」という星野リゾートの温泉旅館
｢界｣ブランドの最新旅館です。

On December 2012, we saw another new ryokan was born in Hakone.
It’s KAI Hakone by Hoshino Resort. That is a ryokan that boasts hot springs.
The traditional Japanese inn is the latest of KAI brand.

It’s located in Yumoto Hot Spring that is the gateway of Hakone,
and Mt.Yusaka sits in front of the ryokan.
Also you can see the clear waters of the Sukumo River below.
The mountains that are what we call Hakone embrace the ryokan calmly.

佐賀県の秘境、古湯温泉「ONCRI/おんくり」でのことです。

今までずっと試したいと思っていた「天然砂蒸し風呂」に
生まれて初めて入りました。
「砂」はただの砂はでなく、マイナスイオンや遠赤外線効果のある
トルマリンや、麦飯石などが使われているなんて、知らなかった！

さらに長い時間入るのかと思ったら、平均15～20分だそう。
けっこう熱い温泉が下を通り砂を温めていることで、
長く入りすぎるとフラフラになる可能性有り。
新陳代謝を良くし、血行促進、細胞の活性化も効果有り。
昔の人はよく考えたものですよね。

My First Experience Ever

It was when I visited ONCRI in Furuyu Hot Spring hidden from the central part of Saga Prefecture.　http://www.oncri.com/
For the first time I took a “Natural Sand Steam Bath” I had been really eager to try.

I never knew that the “sand” was not the common sand but　are contained tourmaline and heal stone that are said to have negative ion and a far infrared effect !
I heard that the average hour of use is 15-20 minutes though I thought we should use much longer.

The hot sand was heated by the very hot spring flowing under the sand that if you took too much you would feel dizzy.
The bath would increase metabolism and blood circulation and also lead activation of cell.
Ancient wisdom remains useful even today.

18th to 20th December 2012

スリランカ行きは3度目でしたが、最後に訪れてから
すでに7年以上が過ぎていました。

まず降り立ったコロンボは、経済発展が進み
賑わい活力のある空気が伝わってきます。
1泊後、アマンリゾーツの「アマンガラ」から
「アマンウェラ」を目指すためにコロンボを出発。
以前は国内線でゴールまで飛んでいましたが、
今回は、日本のゼネコンが作ったという高速道路が
丁度開通したばかりということで、
迎えを頼んだ「アマンガラ」の車でゴールフォートを目指しました。
看板も道の様子も、日本の高速道路にそっくりでした。

3時間弱で、世界遺産の町ゴールフォートに到着。
「アマンガラ」は変わらずに美しく、
コロニアル建築の白亜の姿のままに佇んでいました。
これほど美しいホテルは、世界広しといえどそうそうありません。

Sri Lanka for the First Time in 7 Years,
from Colombo to Galle

It was the third visit to Sri Lanka for me and more than seven years had already passed from the last stay.

I initially landed in Colombo that is growing rapidly and has vibrant atmosphere.

After overnight stay at Colombo, I was heading for Amanresorts’ Amangalla and Amanwella.
In the past I flew to Galle by air from Colombo.
But this time Amangalla’s limousine took me to Galle Fort by the high way that was reportedly built by a Japanese general contractor. The recently opened high way looks like ones in Japan as well as the traffic signs.

In less than 3 hours, the car got to Galle Fort, the town of the World Heritage site.

Amangalla had remained beautiful and stood as a chalky colonial-style architecture.
I have never seen such a magnificent hotel in the world.

22nd to 29th November 2012

2012年の末、上越新幹線が雪のために送電線が切れて
動かなくなった日がありました。
その日、悪夢のような経験をしたのです。

行きは東京駅から新潟駅まで直行新幹線で1時間40分、
澄みきった空の下で「カーブドッチ」を目指したのです。

ワイナリィと温泉と、アヴェダのスパサロンがある贅沢なリゾートです。

午後になって突風が吹き始め、かつて経験したことの無い
強風と、おかしな天気に不安を感じていました。
夜は余りの強風に停電、暖房も切れて宿泊施設は真冬の寒さの中に。
電気が戻ったのは深夜2時頃のことでした。

翌朝、深閑とした空気にカーテンを空けると、なんと、
やっぱり雪。しかも30センチ以上も積もり、
一面は白銀の景色と化していました。

夕方4時頃の帰京予定を切り上げ、朝一番で新潟駅まで
送ってもらったのですが、上越線は停電で全線不通。
それでもホームにいた新幹線に乗り込み、走るともわからない
満員列車で立ったまま4時間、170％乗車の列車は
昼過ぎに動き始めたのですが･･･途中で又止まりました。

翌日から海外出張が決まっており、なんとしてでも
東京に戻らないと行けなかった私は、いろんな列車を乗り継ぎ
9時間半かけて東京になんとか辿り着きました。
「行きはよいよい､帰りは…」とはこのことです。

Turned into White Winery over One Night
This is the story that it’s like” Sweet meat will have sour sauce”.

A day at the end of 2012, Joetsu Shinkansen for Niigata(One of the super express train) was out of service by outage due to the snowing.
It was a nightmare day for me.

I was heading for[ Cave d’Occi] under a clear sky taking Joestu Shinkansen from Tokyo to Niigata just 1h 40m in.(http://www.vinespa.jp/)
Cave d’Occi is a luxury winery resort that has some hot springs and the Aveda Spa salon.

In the afternoon, a sudden gust of wind came and I was anxious about the storm I had never experienced and odd weather.
Then in the night so heavy storm knocked out power and the heater was turned off and it left me in the cruel cold. It was around 2AM midnight that power restored

In the next morning I found it was snowing when I opened the curtain feeling the chilly air. It was a snowy world over 30cm fall of snow.

I was taken to the Niigata station in the early morning after changing the plan to take train at 4PM.But the Joetsu Shinkansen was already out of service due to the outage. I managed to ride the Shinkansen stopped at the platform. Standing even for 4 hours in this Shinkansen packed full to wait for the departure, this train pulled out finally in early afternoon, but halted often along the way.

As my overseas trip was scheduled from the next day, I came back to Tokyo after 9 and half hours.

長野県の黒姫駅から車で20分余り、神秘的な野尻湖畔に佇むリゾート、
「野尻湖ホテル エルボスコ」へ行ってきました。

途中の森は､すべてを色づかせてしまうほどの赤や黄色の紅葉の盛り、
鮮やかな自然の色にただただ感動の嵐でした。
気候温暖化の性で、2週間ほど紅葉の頂点が遅れたと言うお陰で、
この11月10日、11日はまさに、襖絵のような艶やかな山々を
眺めることができました。

そこで特別ディナーは、「秋の収穫祭」と題したジビエのディナー。
黒姫に住む冒険家、作家、環境活動家のCWニコル氏の
オリジナル・レシピのジビエ料理をエルボスコのシェフが調理。
お二人のコラボで、贅沢なディナーの時が過ぎていきました。

日本の四季はほんとうに美しい･･･今更ながら自然の大切さを感じ入りました。
11月25日からは、エルボスコも長い、長い、冬の眠りに就き、
翌年、雪が溶けるころまでドアを閉ざします。
もうすぐ、野尻湖付近は冬支度に入ります。

　
"Autumn Harvest Festival" beside Lake Nojiri in the Foliage Season



I have visited Nojiri-ko Hotel EL BOSCO, the resort hotel located by the mystic Lake Nojiri. It takes about 20 minutes for the car to get there from JR Kurohime station, Nagano prefecture.

On the way to the hotel, I was really fascinated with the woods whose leaves had turned red and yellow.
The vivid expression of nature was just breathtaking.

Since it was said that the height of the fall foliage was delayed about 2 weeks than usual, because of the global warming,
 I could enjoy the view of the brilliant mountains that look like fusuma-e, paintings on Japanese sliding-door panels from November 10th to the 11th.

The hotel served the special dinner, titled “Autumn Harvest Festival” including
Gibier..

The Kurohime resident, Mr. C.W Nicol made the recipe for the Gibier Dinner of Autumn. He, who is an adventurer, author and environmentalist, sheared his original recipe with the chef of EL BOSCO. The chef cooked the dinner and the wonderful time passed by with the collaboration between Mr. Nicol and the chef.

The four seasons in Japan is truly impressive. Again the treasure in nature profoundly moved me. On November 25th El BOSCO will close for long winter and they won’t open until the snow melts in the next spring.
 Around Lake Nojiri, it starts getting ready soon for the upcoming winter.

スタイリッシュでラグジュアリーな高級ホテルやリゾートは、贅沢な空間や最高の設備、一流のシェフによるダイニングなど、すべてに於いてまさに‘贅沢’を絵に描いたようですが、現代では、それらの組織がCSR（corporate social responsibility、企業の社会的責任）に熱心に取り組む姿も見受けられます。

今回は、バンコクにあるお洒落なデザインホテル「ザ・メトロポリタン・バンコク」での活動に焦点を当てて取材しました。2010年以来、毎年10月～12月にかけて実施されているマスターカードとの共同チャリティプログラム「MasterCard Purchase With Purpose」という地域福祉団体への支援活動があります。これはホテルの滞在客が精算時にマスターカードで料金を支払うことで、現地の福祉団体向けにマスターカードから30米ドルが寄付されるというものです。

2012年の同チャリティプログラムの活動では、注目された活動は、バンコクの「Goodwill Group Foundation」を通じて、タイ北東部の教育を受けていない女性達に英会話や手作業などの職業訓練をする為の寄付です。実際にこの場を訪れてみると、恩恵にあずかる女性達が、生き生きと目を輝かせ、英語教育や職業訓練を受ける姿を見ることができました。

私達一般の旅行者も旅先のホテルを選ぶときに、ほんの少しCSRの意識を持ち、こうした活動に参加するホテルを選び、該当するカードで支払うことで、間接的に社会貢献遺参加ができるのです。今からでも未だ間に合うこの活動は12月末まで。バンコクを旅するときは、素敵なホテルに泊まって、マスターカードで支払えば、こんな意義深い社会活動に参加したことになるのです。

　
Policy of a Hotel that Dares to Contribute to a Society

Stylish, high-end hotels and holiday resorts seem like a classic example of luxury – a place with things like rich use of space, lavish services, and delicious meals delivered by topnotch chefs. These days, it’s not rare to see the same type of corporations actively get involved in social activities.

During my recent reporting trip, I was in Bangkok, focusing mostly on a fashionable boutique hotel, “The Metropolitan Bangkok”. This hotel chain supports an initiative called “MasterCard Purchase With Purpose” held from October to December each year. Through this program, hotel guests can indirectly donate US$30 to local grassroots organizations by settling the hotel bills with a MasterCard.

The noteworthy activities benefited from this campaign in 2012 is a program by Bangkok’s “Good will Group Foundation,” which provides vocational trainings like English conversation and handcraft making to education-deprived women in Northeastern Thailand. When I visited the actual site, I could witness the participants learning the news skills livelily with shining eyes.

As we choose our hotels, we can help contribute to a society by keeping corporate social responsibility in mind, selecting a place active in social activities, and making the payment with the designated card. There is still time. The campaign goes on till the end of December. If you are traveling to Bangkok, you can stay at a nice hotel, use your MasterCard and support a meaningful social initiative.

「温泉も、故郷の味も、そして郷土文化や伝統も、
青森のすべてを詰めてゲストを楽しませてくれる宿」と、
パンフレットや噂では聞いていました。

そして，念願叶って訪れた青森県三沢市「星野リゾート 青森屋」でした。
旅館は想像を遙かに超えて、滞在者達を賑やかな「祭り」の世界へと引き込んでしまう
エンターテイメントの宿でした。

秋の始まりにと、涼しさを求めて旅に出た9月17日。青森は雲一つ無いほどの晴天でした。
そして東京と少しも変わらぬ暑い夏が終わらず、翌日には36.1℃を記録。
気象観測以来の暑さと言うではありませんか。
本来なら、林檎の収穫時期や紅葉が始まる季節なのに･･･。

東京ドーム17個分もの広さがあるという旅館の敷地には、沼や池、森や公園があり、
移築したという渋沢栄一邸も静かに佇んでいます。

旅館「星野リゾート 青森屋」では、夜になると、幾つかある食事処の中の
「お祭りショーレストラン、みちのく祭りや」で壮大な祭り風景を再現してくれるのです。

演じるのはすべて若いスタッフ達です。
「青森ねぶた」「弘前ねぷた」「八戸三大社祭、ヤマトタケル」をバックに、
太鼓、鐘、笛の演奏や踊りが披露され、その勢いも感動的です。
すっかり日常を忘れ、祭りの躍動感に酔いしれる夜のひとときでした。

楽しい宿は超満員、人が宿に求めているのは、
「日常を離れ、その土地にしかない大切な文化や伝統に親しみ、
その土地の食を満喫すること」なのだと改めて思いました。

　
An Exciting Evening of Tohoku’s "Matsuri"

"An inn that welcomes its guests with best of Aomori’s hot springs, local cuisines, traditions and culture" is what I have heard of this place from the brochures and the hype. The visit to "Hoshino Resort Aomori-ya" was an anticipated one. The Ryokan (Japanese style inn) was well beyond what I had imagined, and the stay was an entertainment that lured the guests into a word of a festive Matsuri (festival/carnival)

On September 17th, I left on an early fall trip in search for cool weather. The weather in Aomori was beautiful with not a cloud in the sky. Just as in Tokyo, the summer hasn’t ended, and the next day the temperature recorded at 36.1°C (97°F). It’s said that this was a record heat. It’s supposedly apple picking and foliage season by now….

This Ryokan sits on an estate size of 17 Tokyo Dome (that’s 150 American football fields or 74 soccer fields) and includes ponds and swamps, a forest and a park, and a relocated resident of Shibusawa Eiichi (Japanese industrialist, known as "Father of Japanese Capitalism") is quietly perched on it.

"Omatsuri Show Restaurant Michinoku-Matsuri-ya", one of the restaurants of Ryokan "Hoshino Resort Aomori-ya" reenacts a large-scale scene from traditional festivals. The cast members are the young staff of the inn.

With the backdrop of "Aomori Nebuta" "Hirosaki Neputa" (Nebuta/neputa are Aomori’s traditional large parade floats made of wood and paper) and "Hachinohe Sanja Dai-Matsuri Yamato Takeru", an energetic performance of drums gongs, flute and dance was breathtaking. With the daily life left far behind, I was completely immersed in the vibe of the festival for that evening.

This entertaining inn was fully booked, and it reminded me that the guests are seeking "to get away from everyday life, and become familiar with the culture and the traditions of the visiting area, and enjoy the local food."

2年ぶりのマカオに行きました。
今回は2011年5月に誕生した「ギャラクシー・マカオ」を訪ねました。

マカオの発展には、正直、本当に言葉を失います。
「ギャラクシー・マカオ」には、驚く無かれ
世界最大級のスカイトップ・ウェーブ・プール（波のプール）があり、
そこにいると、波の来る本物の海辺にいる気分になるから不思議。

そしてリゾート内には5ツ星豪華ホテルが3軒、
「バンヤンツリーマカオ」「ホテルオークラマカオ」
「ギャラクシーホテル」が揃い、総客室は3軒で2200室もあるのに、
いずれも、夏休みとはいえほぼ満室でした。

凄い活気ですね～、やっぱり中国マネーの威力は強い！
さて、異国情緒溢れる‘オールドマカオ’はいずこへ･･･。

　　
Astonishing Macau!

I went to Macau for the first time in two years.
This time I visited the “Galaxy Macau” which opened on May 2011. I am honestly at a loss of words when it comes to Macau’s development.

Galaxy Macau, lo and behold, has one of the world’s largest sky-top wave pool, and being there is amazingly similar to sitting on a real beach.

The resort houses three, five-star luxury hotels,
“Banyan Tree Macau” “Hotel Okura Macau” and “Galaxy Hotel”, although given that it was the summer season, despite having 2200 guest rooms in total, the resort was nearly fully booked.

That’s an amazing energy- China money certainly has a momentum!
Now, where has the exotic ‘Old Macau’ has gone?

2012年7月21日、爽やかなハイシーズンを
迎えていたバリ島の東海岸にあるリゾート「アマンキラ」では
20周年を祝う祝賀行事に湧きました。
満室となったリゾートに滞在していた世界中のアマンジャンキー、

その後、賓客、総支配人、主催者側の歓迎と感謝の挨拶に続き、
バリ島の郷土料理を中心にした食事が振る舞われたのです。

アカデミックで文化的な薫り漂うパーティーの印象です。

どこも古びない、むしろ新しささえ感じる変わらぬもてなしの館です。

"Amankila" Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

July 21, 2012, on the east coast of Bali, in the midst of the fresh high-season, Amankila was full of festivities celebrating its 20th Anniversary. The resort was fully packed with Aman junkies from all around the world, local and global top media, and Amanresorts affiliates to celebrate the 20 years of unforgettable stories and history.

The Celebration opened with a true touch of AmanResorts .
Guests, arriving one by one, were welcomed at the door with Balinese dance. The party warmed up with cocktails, conversations and reunions, followed by over an hour of passionate Kecyak dance performance depicting a full-length story, which was stunning and took the breath away from everyone in the audience. A soulful dance of blazing calls and dance by Balinese men, from children to adults,
Afterwards, guests of honor, the general manager and the hosts of the evening expressed their welcome and gratitude, and a meal consisting mainly of authentic Balinese cuisine was served.
